How the development of Let's Practice Music finally got started

I have been accepted to the University of Georgia's Hugh Hodgson School of Music to study piano as an intended education major for Fall semester 2020.  The application process uses the https://getacceptd.com web site in which the application is tailored to the specific musical area to which on applies.  The composition program had a field where I could provide a link to a site that would display examples of my work.  Since I didn't have anything at the time that I considered worthy of being representative of my potential I opted to apply to the music education program instead of as composition major because I enjoy teaching and need the certification to teach at most schools.   Still it got me thinking that I need to start developing an online presence that represents my interests in music.

I am currently taking classes this semester (Spring 2020) and was happily enjoying my return to an academic environment when Covid 19 reared its ugly head during spring break just over a week ago causing a complete shift in the social paradigm in which I had immersed myself.  As the University tries to figure out a way to continue operations using distance learning technologies I have decided to start enhancing my online presence by exploring my options and resurrecting and enhancing some earlier attempts that I made in that direction but was not satisfied with.  I intend to use the website http://gregshoemaker.net as my 'online home' while this site (http://letspracticemusic.com) will be geared more toward exploring the process of learning music as I described in the original 2017 article So You Want to Make Music? I am also starting to explore live streaming and intend to create several different types of videos to host on my YouTube channel Greg Shoemaker - Music.  Finally, I've decided to become more involved in social media which I've mostly avoided because of privacy concerns, particularly Facebook, but it's now time to get over that and I expect that by this summer I will be reasonably active with the medium.

I feel I've started to make great strides toward accomplishing this goal, at least in terms of getting the process organized, and I plan on continuing to enhance this content throughout my program of study and beyond.  Hopefully it won't take me too long to get some more representative content published but that will likely be a function of how things go as school resumes.
