January 14, 2021.  Theory II (SP2021) This is the first day of the Theory II class and I thought I would just experiment with using this as a blog for the the class.  Well see how this goes.  Today will be half housekeeping and half review.  The main topics during this term will be harmony, voice leading, small form, style, tonicization, modulation, and phrase forms. The instructor is Michael Flynn (michaelflynnmusic.com), a DMA composition student and during today's class we analyzed the form of the Ab Mazuraka by Chopin and the harmonic content of the first two systems identifying the cadences noting the cadential I 6/4 chords located in measures 6 and 10 and how they tend to resolve into a perfect authentic cadence.
